Leadership Coaching
No one is born knowing how to lead others. Coaching for this skill will sharpen your clarity about what motivates your behavior and the impact your behavior has on the people around you. We’ll utilize assessment tools, optional 360 feedback, field observations and experiments, relevant reading, and occasional written reflections to take you to the next level in your leadership journey. Common topics clients initially bring to leadership coaching include:
-
Enhancing emotional intelligence: managing your own emotions and influencing the emotions of others to create positive relationships and drive strong results
-
Influencing and inspiring others: communicating in ways that motivate others to listen and respond positively to your thoughts, ideas, and perspectives
-
Adapting and prioritizing in a fast-paced environment: managing your time and managing others’ expectations about what can be done by when
-
Managing conflict: navigating strong opinions in ways that create commitment to a way forward, despite great variations in perspective
-
Leading with inclusion: leaning into curiosity and respect, developing the skill to understand and work with people who see and experience the world differently from you along many potential dimensions of diversity, including gender and gender identity, race, ethnicity, political, cultural, sexual orientation, age, and more
-
Developing others: with a focus on understanding what motivates those you lead, increasing your effectiveness in helping your team members grow and improve their performance
You can expect some immediate results as you practice new behaviors and begin a life-changing journey toward stronger relationships and leading with greater impact.
Custom Workshop Design & Facilitation
I am skilled at and energized by creating and facilitating conversations. Commonly requested topics include:
Emotional Intelligence
Inclusive Leadership
Gender Dynamics
Confidence Building
Presence and Self Awareness
Managing Stress
Integrating self-assessments, individual reflection, small group discussions, and action planning creates an environment that inspires and empowers participants to implement new tools immediately. In these discussions, I draw not only on my professional competencies as a coach and certified master facilitator, but also on my years of experience as leader in a fast-paced global organization.
Mindfulness Teaching and Programs
I offer the course Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) on-line twice per year, in late winter/early spring and autumn. This eight-week course framework, designed by Jon Kabat-Zinn, has been in use for over 40 years. As the most-researched approach to learning mindfulness, MBSR has been shown to correlate with positive impacts on physical and emotional well-being. Study findings include increased ability to focus, positive impacts on pain management, decreased stress reactivity, and improvements in sleep, among other benefits. The course is experiential in its approach, with roughly half of in-class time spent learning and practicing mindfulness together.
When not practicing together, class time is used to explore the nature of perception, our relationship to our thoughts and emotions, techniques to improve our relationships, and increasing our awareness of the choices we make in our consumption of food, drink, and media. Habitual human mindsets (striving, impatience, making assumptions about ourselves and others, and grasping for control) are explored. We experiment with ways to back away from these mindsets when they aren’t called for, and we explore how to cultivate the stress-reducing mindsets of non-judging, patience, gratitude, letting be, and generosity.
Mindfulness concepts are often woven into my facilitated workshops and coaching, according to my clients’ interest and needs. Powerful short courses that focus specifically on building the skills of mindfulness and emotional intelligence are also available.
Team Workshops
Utilizing The Table Group’s team assessment and drawing heavily on Patrick Lencioni’s model for high performing teams, we’ll design a team workshop that will help you and your team build trust, embrace healthy debate, increase clarity of direction, and support each other in professional and personal growth. Team workshops can be scaled in duration, starting with as little as a half-day. Outcomes and deliverables include clarity on rules of engagement, agreements on how to disagree, and techniques for giving each other real-time feedback that will enhance the team’s performance. Optional personal and professional skill-building modules can be included as needed and relevant for the team’s health.
Customized Keynote or Featured Speaker Presentations
Shorter versions of facilitated workshops, keynote and featured speaker presentations are engaging, growth-oriented sessions that can be included as part of a team off-site, industry group meeting, annual development meetings, or similar programs. These presentations are typically 60 to 90 minutes long. I utilize concise delivery of personal or professional growth content, with personal and/or shared reflection time to help participants implement tools and techniques immediately. Topics can be customized, and popular content includes emotional intelligence, building confidence, developing others, stress management, positive outlook, creating balance, and mindfulness.
